Eugen Hammerschmidt, 80 years old and extremely rich, returns from vacation with a young woman – Lara, his wife. Eugen's sister Adelheid and his ex-wife Julia, who consider themselves the heirs to his fortune, suddenly find their fortunes in jeopardy. They make plans to get rid of the young woman. His private secretary, Mendoza, and James, the house factotum, are also not happy about Eugen's marriage. Only cook Mary finds the event romantic. When Eugen's indiscreet notary lets it slip that Eugen intends to change his will in favor of the young woman, events in the Hammerschmidt household take a dramatic turn. And what is the maid Iris up to?
