Bernd Kohlhepp – Faust on the Eye… based on Goethe

November 21, 2025 | 19:00 - 21:00

With the fist on the eye … freely adapted from Goethe”

Goethe knew the entire Faust by heart, but he had no idea how a smartphone worked. So the question is obvious: How does classical education help us navigate the madness between infancy and menopause, between parent-teacher meetings and adventure climbing? And how do we recognize "what holds the world together at its core" between Instagram, WikiLeaks, and WhatsApp?

Baden-Württemberg cabaret artist Bernd Kohlhepp powerfully recites world-famous passages from Goethe's 1808 work, contrasting the classic material with stark reality. This seamlessly ties in with Friedrich Schiller's "The Robbers or something," with which he invented the new genre of classic comedy.

In "Faust," Kohlhepp takes on the role of a teacher, a failed husband, and a father who knows he can't save the West alone—but he tries. And in doing so, he finds himself with his back against the wall, faced with students who are uneducated, violent parents, his own family in crisis, and hidden Islamism. Through expressive facial expressions, spontaneously transformative acting, improvisation, and his powerful stage presence, Kohlhepp portrays the entire drama in a one-man show, flirting with the audience along the way. A brilliant performance in the unmistakable style of the multi-talented artist.

“He screams and rants, mutters, curses and laments…

When Kohlhepp attacks Goethe, then that is

very, very funny.”

Reutlinger General Anzeiger about the premiere

"Big compliment, Mr. Kohlhepp. ... It's almost so beautiful it makes you cry..."

Pforzheim Newspaper 2021

“A hot tour de force through Goethe’s Faust that completely thrilled the audience.”
