Ruin

From the castle, one can reach the so-called Rear Castle via the enclosed castle garden. It lies to the east of the castle complex and still features a circular wall, a battlement with defensive towers, and a neck moat. This was the home of the sub-bailiffs of the counts and later dukes of Württemberg. In the 16th century, the building was converted into a fruit store with numerous windows and doorways. Four loading hatches are still preserved on the south side. The keystone of the lower loading hatch bears the date 1572. In the mid-17th century, the fruit store was probably expanded to include stables, adjacent to which the stair tower, which still exists today, was located. After the last manager of the fruit store was forced to move to the city, the building was used as a quarry and fell into disrepair. Today, the wildly romantic ruins are a popular barbecue area that can be rented.
