St. George's Church

A romantic paved footpath takes you from Neuenbürg Castle down the Vordere Schlosssteige (front castle path) to St. George's Church in about 10 minutes. The church, probably built below the castle in the late 13th century, was described in 1393 as "St. George in the Lower Castle." This architectural monument thus attests to Neuenbürg's initial origins as a castle hamlet. Unique frescoes from the 14th and 15th centuries have been preserved inside St. George's Church. The park-like old cemetery next to the church, with its gravestones, tells touching family stories.
