FLUX – Between Water and Stone

12.10. – 23.11.2025

Melanie Wiora explores nature and our relationship with it. Her works reveal what remains hidden from view: the tremendous energy of natural forces and their constant transformation.

Wiora's photographs and videos take us directly into the realms of nature. In the photo series "Natura," our gaze sweeps across vast landscapes, immersed in microcosms that seem frozen between states. The power and change inherent in these primal landscapes are immediately tangible. The boundaries between fog, water, rock, or ice, between sky and earth, blur.

In the photo series "Arise," the artist depicts crystalline structures and formations that appear out of nowhere. The eruptions of mud volcanoes appear frozen in mid-motion.

The videos in the "Waters" series, mostly depicting volcanic water phenomena, create a choreography of intertwining structures and forms. The extreme slow motion allows the immense power of water and its constant transformability to be experienced. In floor-to-ceiling installations, the viewer can experience even the smallest details and changes in natural processes that actually last only a few seconds. They are immersed in a raw yet fascinating natural world, carried by a visual pull into an almost meditative state.

Melanie Wiora lives and works in Cologne. She studied painting at the Karlsruhe Art Academy and media art at the Karlsruhe University of Art and Design. Numerous awards and scholarships have taken her to London and New York, among other places. Most recently, she received a scholarship from VG Bild-Kunst in 2021, and in 2023 and 2025 she was artist in residence at the Museum Kunst der Westküste on Föhr.
