Playmobil – Knights, Pirates, Eskimos and many others
Sunday, October 23 at 11 a.m.
This year's autumn and winter exhibition will open at 23 a.m. on Sunday, October 11, in the Fürstensaal (Prince's Hall) of Neuenbürg Castle. The 7 cm tall, always smiling Playmobil figures have conquered every child's room since 1974. The company, based in Upper Franconia, has since grown into a global player. Thanks to the Alsatian collector couple Fanny and Olivier Bellons, we can offer visitors a complete overview of 30 years of Playmobil.
A young Neuenbürger artist has her own thoughts on Playmobil and will present her works alongside the exhibition.
PLAYMOBIL – conquering the world with a smile
When the first PLAYMOBIL figures appeared in 1974, few predicted such a stellar international career. Since then, over 1,8 billion of these colorful, posable plastic figures have been sold around the world. The PLAYMOBIL play system has long been considered a toy classic. It propelled its manufacturer, geobra Brandstätter GmbH & Co. KG from Zirndorf, Franconia, to the top of German toy production.
The lively little playmates with their friendly smiling faces and their multifaceted play worlds – all perfectly suited in scale, design and workmanship – are an integral part of children's rooms and store shelves.
PLAYMOBIL is one of the favorite toys among children, who engage with it enthusiastically and intensely. Parents and educators view the play system as a synonym for high play value and the highest quality.
The selection is rich with themes from the past, present, and future: knights/castles, pirates, Vikings, city life, rescue, leisure, farms, fairytale castles, dollhouses, trains, and much more fascinate kids. PLAYMOBIL leaves no room for horror and overt violence.
PLAYMOBIL brand play materials offer their target audience – primarily boys and girls between 3 and 10 years old – excellent opportunities to recreate and experience the world in miniature. It promotes child development by stimulating imagination and creativity. Attractive colors, easy handling, and realistic design create a strong appeal for children.
The careful craftsmanship and durability of the toys also play a major role in PLAYMOBIL's success. Children appreciate good quality and respond to lovingly crafted details; they sense the appreciation inherent in these.
The figures have since achieved cult status. In his book "Generation Golf" (Argon Verlag), author Florian Illies describes PLAYMOBIL as "the most formative thing that has happened to our generation," as a "major, shared pivotal experience" for those born between 1965 and 1975.
