Hot baths in cool forests
March 06 – May 16, 2005
The first special exhibition of the new 2005 season will be on display from March 6 to May 16 and provides an overview of the history of the spas and health resorts in the Black Forest from Roman times to the present day. Even in the Middle Ages, places like Wildbad and Baden-Baden were famous for their "healing waters." Improved transportation and the success of balneology attracted thousands of sick people and those in need of relaxation to the spas each year. Exhibits on spa holidays, spa medicine, geology, and spa conviviality demonstrate the physical and psychological powers that help alleviate suffering. Visitors can try out various hydrotherapy methods for themselves in the exhibition. A companion volume, "Cult Spas and Spa Culture in Baden-Württemberg," has been published by Markstein Verlag.
