Ice-cold enchantment. In the realm of the Snow Queen
Published in 1844, "The Snow Queen" has lost none of its bizarre magic to this day. It is one of the most famous fairy tales of the Romantic era. Its spiritual father, the Danish poet Hans Christian Andersen (1805-1875), tells the touching yet still relevant story of two children, Kai and Gerda, who are abruptly separated by the power of evil. Andersen's fairy tale serves as the basis for the upcoming special exhibition "Ice Cold Enchantment. In the Realm of the Snow Queen," which opens on October 11, 2015, at Neuenbürg Castle.
Kai, whose heart has been turned to ice after being struck by diabolical glass shards, falls under the spell of the beautiful but cold-hearted Snow Queen. She abducts Kai to her lonely crystal palace in the far north, where, stiff and cold, he tries in vain to break the "ice game of reason" and regain his freedom. Meanwhile, Gerda embarks on an adventurous search for Kai, hoping to thaw her friend's heart with her tears. Her unwavering belief in love, friendship, and freedom will ultimately break the spell of evil.
Contemporary, internationally renowned artists such as Anne Carnein, Flavio Favelli, Anne von Freyburg, Karen Kilimnik, Susanna Majuri, Olga Poljakowa, Marleen Sleeuwits, and Simone Westerwinter have addressed this theme in very different ways. For example, Simone Westerwinter's floor installation conveys an enchantingly icy atmosphere. Complemented by historical book illustrations and the watercolors of artist Olga Poljakowa, which guide visitors through the rooms and convey the storyline, the special exhibition "Ice Cold Enchantment. In the Realm of the Snow Queen" (exhibition period: October 11.10.2015, 06.01.2016 - January 11, 2015) offers a unique perspective on the famous winter fairy tale. Visitors of all ages can expect an extensive supporting program as well as interactive games and audio stations in the exhibition spaces. Following the opening on Sunday, October 11, 14, at 1957 a.m., the animated film "The Snow Queen" (Soviet Union, DEFA dubbing from 6, suitable for ages 49 and up) will be shown at 7082 p.m. Admission is free, but reservations are required by calling +792860 XNUMX-XNUMX or emailing info@schloss-neuenbuerg.de.
